How It Works
01
What is the Alkathon?
The Alkathon is a 24-hour event celebrating the spirit of recovery during two meaningful times of the year: Christmas and New Year's. We're gathering together from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day (12pm to 12pm) and again from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day (12pm to 12pm). It's a time for connection, community, and supporting each other—perfect for anyone in recovery.
02
Who can join the Alkathon?
Everyone in recovery is welcome! Although the meetings are hosted by local AA groups, we’re not affiliated with AA or any other organization. If you're in recovery, looking for support, or just want a safe and encouraging space to celebrate the holidays, this event is for you.
03
What can I expect at the Alkathon?
Expect a full schedule of support and celebration. We hold meetings every hour, hosted by AA groups from the city. There’s also a special Christmas Eve Dinner, a New Year's Eve Dance to welcome in the new year with joy, and guided meditation meetings in the mornings to help set a positive tone for the day.
04
What should I bring?
We ask that individuals bring a food or monetary donation to support the event—it helps us keep the community spirit strong and share what we have with others. Additionally, you’re encouraged to volunteer some of your time. There are various important roles on the day of, and no sobriety requirements for lending a hand. Everyone’s contribution matters!
05
Why do we need volunteers?
This event is all about giving and sharing the Gifts of Recovery, and that means everyone has something to offer. Volunteering is a great way to contribute to the success of the Alkathon and connect with others. Plus, there are no requirements for sobriety time—anyone can help. Whether it's setting up, helping with food service, or just being there for a friendly chat, your time and presence make a big difference.
06
Do I need to stay for the whole 24 hours?
Not at all! You’re welcome to join for as much or as little of the Alkathon as you’d like. Whether you can only drop by for a meeting, want to enjoy a meal, or feel like dancing into the night, we’re happy to have you. Come and go as you need—the door is always open.
07
Can I bring friends or family?
Absolutely! This is an open event, and the more, the merrier. Anyone who wants to support recovery or just needs a positive space during the holidays is welcome to join.
08
How can I get involved?
If you’re interested in volunteering, hosting a meeting, or simply want to know more, reach out to us! We’re always looking for extra hands and fresh ideas to make the Alkathon even better. Everyone's effort—big or small—helps make this event the wonderful gathering it is.
